Art Workshops in Israel
Plein Air Landscape
Have you ever wondered what is the difference between
looking and seeing?
This Art Workshop will transform you
from a person who looks…
To a person who can see…
About the workshop:
I always tell my students that drawing and painting is another way of expanding our sight and being in touch with our feelings.
Indeed my students often remark on how, during the process of learning to paint, they have started to observe their surroundings with "different eyes". How daily ordinary sights suddenly look new and exciting. They see details they have never noticed before; all colors look more vibrant and even the smells seem more intense.
Therefore, when I invite you to participate in my workshops,
I have in mind more than just painting.
I would never offer to teach you just painting techniques.
I would never tell you that in order to paint a beautiful Plein Air Landscape you need to travel to unique and exotic places.
I am telling you just the opposite: observe your world with "fresh eyes".
With my method of painting and drawing you will learn
how you can really see…not just look at …
You will learn how to rediscover your familiar surroundings merely by looking with "fresh eyes".
Than, you will learn methods of interpreting what you see into wonderful paintings using the language of art: Color harmony, stains and lines, composition, brushstrokes…and much more.

About myself: Miri lavee – Artist and art instructor
By constantly observing my surroundings with" fresh eyes", I put into practice the principles I teach.
For many years I worked as an accountant, until 20 years ago, I decided to turn my painting hobby into my main occupation.
At the age of 38 and the mother of four young children, I launched into 4 years of serious studies at the Fine Art Institution in Ramat Hashron. I have become an accomplished artist and art instructor, and have never regretted my decision.
As you can see in my oil paintings, one of the themes that fascinate me most is Light and the special bond between light and color.
This is one of the subjects I will show you how to deal with.
I paint and teach in the beautiful village Karmei-Yosef in Israel. The courses in my studio are annual; however, I have short-term workshops as well.
I teach mostly adults, and I honestly love what I do.
I like watching my students when the start really seeing things,
not just looking at them.
It makes the process of painting and drawing so much easier!

Supply list for this workshop:
You can buy all supplies on location, or use your own supplies
Paper:
A bunch of sheets of paper, size: A4, for preliminary sketches
Oil Paints:
Titanium white, cadmium yellow light, yellow ochre, cadmium orange, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, transparent brown oxide, chromium green oxide, viridian, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, ivory black.
Brushes:
I mostly use bristle brushes, mainly filberts and brights #2,#4,#6,#8,#10. I usually have at least two or three of each. I will use some round sables for detail or to sign my name.
Canvases:
When I paint outside I use ready made gesso primed stretched canvases to paint on, anywhere from 4"x6" to 12"x16". I recommend a variety of sizes including 8"x10",9"x12",11"x14" to paint on.
Easel:
Have a good easel such as the French easel, backpack easel or one of the many good paint boxes on the market.
Cleaning container:
I recommend that you have a good size container to clean your brushes with and a small cup for your medium. I use Turpentine to clean brushes and for my medium. I usually use a glass or Plexiglas palette, wood palettes are fine as are the fold out palette pals.
Palette knife:
Use a palette knife and/or a scraper to clean your palette and a roll of paper towels to clean the palette and brushes with.
Comfortable clothes:
Wear comfortable shoes and practical clothes for whatever weather one may encounter. Do not wear any vivid color cloths that might reflect color into your painting surface. A hat is important to keep the sun out of your eyes and a plein air umbrella is even better.
On the first day we will probably just be doing sketches and smaller studies in the 6"x8" to 9"x12" range to get people warmed up.
